Round Seven                                                                    Shirov absorbs his first loss at the halfway point of the tournament to Nakamura - Carlsen defeats Ivanchuk and is now, along with Nakamura,  only a half point behind Shirov who is 5.5/7 - Giri still leads Group B by a full point at 5.5/7 followed by a four player group with 4.5/7; l'Ami, Ni, Howell and So - Robson takes his first loss of the event in Group C to Italian GM Vocaturo but still leads 5.5/7 - Gupta and Chao follow closely with 5.0/7

 

Round Eight                                                                     Four White wins by Kramnik, Karjakin, Leko and Caruana in the A Group going into the second rest day - Shirov still in the lead 6.0/8 - Kramnik and Carlsen close behind with 5.5/8 - Five decisive games in B Group       Giri still in the lead 6.5/8 followed by Ni, So and l'Ami 5.0/8 - Robson drawn by Plukkel but still in the lead 6.0/8 - Chao and Gupta 5.5/8

Round One - Netherland Champion and 14 seed Jan Smeets (2601) beats top seed Ivanchuk (2779) with Black - Morozevich (2771) loses to Karjakin(2706)               Kamsky draws with Adams


Round Two - Ivanchuk comes back with a win against Yue Wang- Morozevich gets on the board with a win against Van Wely - Movsesian defeats Adams - Kamsky draws with Dominguez


Round Three - Kamsky defeats Morozevich to join the leaders - Top seed Ivanchuk loses for the second time in three games - Short, Navara, Kasimdzhanov tied for the lead in GM group B with 2.5/3 - Iturrizaga wins to join Bosboom in the lead with 2.5/3 in GM group C



Round Four - All draws today in the GM group A - the first rest day sees Kamsky, Karjakin,  Radjabov,  Movsesian and 14 seed Smeets all with 2.5/4 - the win by 8th seed Caruana in GM B section propels him into the lead with Short and Kasimdzhanov all at 3.0/4 - another win in the GM C section by Tiger Hillarp Persson puts him in the lead along with 13 seed IM Manuel Bosboom (2418) at 3.0/4 - next round Thursday

Round Five - Karjakin alone in the lead after defeating Stellwagen - Morozevich loses third game of the event to Dominguez - Aronian, Van Wely other winners in GM A - Kasimdzhanov leads in GM B - Sasikiran, Volokitin, Efimenko win - All but one game decisive in GM C where Hillarp Persson leads

Round Six - Karjakin still alone in the lead at 4.0/6 - World number five Morozevich loses his fourth game, this time to Movsesian - Adams defeats Wang while Kamsky finally falls to Radjabov - 14 seed Smeets has still not lost - In GM B, wins with the black pieces vault Short and Navara into the lead with Kasimdzhanov at 4.0/6 - Wesley So takes over the lead in GM C with 4.5/6 - IM Bosboom 4.0/6 along with Persson

Round Seven - Movsesian defeats Ivanchuk to join Karjakin in the lead - Morozevich hands Smeets his first loss, but still shares last place with Ivanchuk and Wang - Short takes over the lead in GM B with his win over Kasimdzhanov - All games in B decisive except one draw - Tiger Hillarp Persson joins So in the lead in GM C after his win with the black pieces against Iturrizaga who has now lost four in a row

Round Eight - Going into the second rest day, Movsesian takes over the lead in GM group A with 5.0/8 after Karjakin loses to Ivanchuk - Yue Wang hands Morozevich his fifth loss in eight games - Aronian, Karjakin, Dominguez and Radjabov all with 4.5/8 - In GM group B, Short maintains his lead at 5.5/8 after he salvages a draw with Volokitin, who, along with Motylev trail Short by 1/2 point - Tiger Hillarp Persson back in the lead at an impressive 6.0/8 coupled with his win over Manuel Leon Hoyos and top seed Wesley So's loss to 9th seed Frank Holze - All but one decisive game in GM C - Next round Tuesday

Round Nine - Aronian, Karjakin & Dominguez tied for first in GM A after defeating Kamsky, Movsesian & Stellwagen respectively - Short remains in first in GM B but five players 1/2 point behind hot on his heels - Top seed Sasikirin loses again - Hillarp Persson still on top in GM C

Round Ten - Heading into the final rest day, Aronian beats Adams to take the sole lead in GM A- Carlsen defeats Dominguez - All other games drawn - Short stays on top in GM B, but five players still 1/2 point behind - Number one seed Sasikirin in last place tied with Werle - Hillarp Persson wins his sixth game to retain lead by 1/2 point over So in GM C, who registered his fifth win - All games in GM C decisive today - Next round Friday

Round Eleven - Dominguez wins brilliancy prize in defeat of Aronian in GM A- Radjabov, Movsesian, Kamsky all win - four-way tie at the top - In GM B, Short retains the lead with a win over Navara with the black pieces - Caruana and Kasimdzhanov both win to share second place, 1/2 point behind the leader - Top seed Sasikirin loses again - In GM C, Hillarp Persson falls to Bitalzadeh while top seed So (8.0/11) takes over first place with a win over Bosboom - All but one game decisive - FM Anish Giri (RUS) attains GM norm while assuming third place at 7.0/11

Round Twelve - Carlsen bests Smeets, Karjakin beats Adams to create six way tie at the top of GM A with one round to go - All other games drawn - Carlsen is the only player who has not lost a game - Kasimdzhanov beats l'Ami to join Short for the lead in GM B - Wesley So defeats his closest challenger to guarantee himself at least a tie for first place in GM C - FM Giri, soon to be GM, takes over second place - Final round tomorrow

Round Thirteen -Nineteen year old eleventh seed Ukranian GM Sergey Karjakin (2706) wins Corus 2009 (8.0/13) after defeating Cuban GM Lenier Dominguez with black - Sixteen year old Italian GM Fabiano Caruana (2646) wins Corus GM B (8.5/13) after knocking off British GM Nigel Short in the last round - Fifteen year old Philippine GM Wesley So (2627) took care of business in Corus GM C (9.5/13) - I'm pretty sure this the first time in the history of the Wijk aan Zee tournament that a teenager won each of the three sections, but I could be wrong.......
